How often should I go to the dentist?

Dentists recommend going to the dentist for cleanings and oral exams every 6 months. These routine appointments serve to remove plaque from the teeth and identify any oral health concerns that may need to be addressed. Dental insurance typically covers two preventive care appointments each year. 

What is the difference between a bridge and a dental implant?

When it comes to replacing a missing tooth, the two most common options are bridges and dental implants. A bridge is an artificial tooth suspended between two crowns that fit over the healthy teeth on each side of the gap. A dental implant is an artificial root that is surgically placed in the jaw with a crown attached to the top. Dental implants are more secure, last a lifetime, and don’t affect the neighboring teeth. 

Should I have a cavity filled if the tooth feels fine? 

Just because a tooth doesn’t hurt doesn’t mean it is healthy. A cavity is a hole in your tooth enamel caused by plaque bacteria. If the cavity is filled when it is first detected, it prevents more severe damage to the tooth. If it is not filled, it will grow deeper and may eventually lead to a painful tooth infection or loss of the tooth. 

Does snoring need to be treated? 

Minor snoring may not cause any severe disruption to your sleep. However, any snoring is an indication that the airway is partially blocked. Loud snoring is more likely to indicate that sleep apnea is occurring. Treating snoring with an oral appliance could improve your quality of sleep and that of your spouse or partner.
